What is coming in 2025 Wave 2: Dynamics 365 Sales

Microsoft has just released the 2025 Wave 2 notes for Dynamics 365 business applications and the Power Platform, and I couldn’t wait to dive in. Over the past few days, I’ve been going through the details to get a solid understanding of what’s coming as part of this wave. You’ll notice that some of these features have been announced previously but are just reaching GA and some of them are already in preview which means you can try them out today! Just like with every release wave, I am working on putting together a series of articles and videos to walk through the functionality. In this first article, I’m starting with what’s coming in Dynamics 365 Sales. Stay tuned as I break it all down and help you get ready for what’s coming next!

Connect AI agents to sales workflows using Model Context Protocol Server

This is one of my favorite features so far as it will lessen the need for complex integrations. This feature allows us to connect data from Dynamics 365 Sales to AI assistants through Model Context Protocol servers! And I am not just talking about connecting to AI Assistants from Microsoft, this goes beyond that! If your sellers use ChatGPT or Claude during their day-to-day work, we can connect to these as well! Connecting these AI Agents to Dynamics 365 Sales allows them to retrieve, update and perform actions on CRM data! If you’ve worked with Copilot Studio before, you are aware that previously we had to build tools to perform actions on Dataverse tables using connections or query Dataverse tables using knowledge, but this will make that a lot easier! These MCP servers will have a lot of these actions already configured, meaning there is no need to create separate tools for each action, all we have to do is simply connect to it, which is almost as easy as connecting plugging in through a USB port! According to the release notes the following functions will be part of the MCP Server for Dynamics 365 Sales:

  • Listing of leads
  • Retrieving lead summaries (using Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales)
  • Qualifying leads to opportunities
  • Getting outreach emails (using Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales)
  • Send outreach emails

Makers can also use the MCP Server for Dynamics 365 Sales in Copilot Studio to build custom autonomous Copilot agents for their sales departments. MCP servers for other applications can be added as well, like ERP or Customer Service systems, allowing for more complex scenarios. For example, a support ticket for an order can be automatically processed by a Copilot agent using a Customer Service MCP server!

Accelerate data entry using form fill assistant toolbar

This feature is related to the Smart Paste feature which I wrote an article about back in December of 2024. Smart Paste lets users copy a snippet of text from just about anywhere and paste it into a form in Dynamics 365. Once pasted, Copilot looks at both the columns in the form and the clipboard content, pulls out the relevant information, and fills the relevant values in the appropriate columns (as suggestions) which a user can then approve. This feature takes form filing to the next level by adding a toolbar on the top of the form, where users can upload documents. Just like with the Smart Paste action, Copilot will review the content in the file, and suggest values in columns in the form, for the seller to approve. Supported file types are .txt, .docx, .csv, .pdf, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp.

Get embedded experience for Copilot Summaries

You might have seen this feature before as well, as it is currently in preview. The feature I’m referring to is called row summaries for tables in a model driven app main form. This functionality shows a summary banner on the top of all main forms for a specific table. Makes can configure what type of information is shown in the banner by adding data sources and by configuring how the summary is presented, and all of this is done by creating a prompt. This embedded experience for Copilot Summaries looks similar, but there are some differences. For example, according to the release notes, sellers will be able to view the summary in full screen, which we currently can’t do with custom row summaries. It also sounds like we don’t have to configure these summaries like we do for custom row summaries, as they are the same summaries Copilot generates in the side car. This feature will allow sellers to view the summary without having to open the side car. Lastly, these embedded summaries will be automatically enabled for Leads, Accounts, and Opportunities.

Boost pipeline by autonomously researching leads with Sales Qualification Agent

Microsoft announced version 1 of the Sales Qualification Agent back in 2025 release wave 1, and it’s been in preview since early May 2025. You are probably wondering why it’s showing again in these release notes, well that is because it will be generally available in October of this year. The Sales Qualification Agent (in case you’re not familiar) is an autonomous agent that helps sellers qualify leads faster and more effectively by researching leads and providing insights so that sellers can focus on the most promising leads. For more information on the Sales Qualification Agent click here.

Microsoft also mentions a new supervisor workspace that shows any roadblocks the agent has hit, allowing for a manager to review and help resolve the issue to the agent can continue. Supervisors can see several performance KPI’s of the Sales Qualification Agent, such as lead qualification rates, lead velocity and more. It also shows an activity feed on the left side of the page that allows the Supervisor to drill into individual leads. Disengaged leads are flagged by the agent and the supervisor can review the reason the leads was marked at disengaged, any key insights related to the lead and every action the SQA has performed so far as part of the sales process.

Improve sales efficiency with Sales Qualification Agent’s email validation

The next two features that are mentioned in the 2025 Wave 2 release notes enhance the current functionality of the Sales Qualification Agent. The first feature is the ability to have the Sales Qualification Agent validate a lead’s email address. This allows a seller to see if an email address is actually valid, and whether it’s a personal or a work email address. If needed, the seller can override the SQA’s assessments, for example if an email needs to be marked as valid or if an email address is a work email or personal email address.

Improve research by adding custom web sources for the Agent

Out of the box, the Sales Qualification Agent conducts research on leads in Dynamics 365 Sales, but admins can’t select the sources that are used for research. This feature allows system administrators to configure additional research sources to the Sales Qualification Agent which can be tailored to specific industries and sales strategies, allowing the agents to deliver better insights to your sellers. I am not sure what this will look like from an admin perspective, but according to the release notes this feature will be available in public preview this month (July).

Visualize and work with hierarchical data from multiple tables

The feature to visualize and work with hierarchical data is one that was missing since the legacy hierarchy control was deprecated back in October of 2024. A lot of people were not happy about this deprecation, as this control is used by lots of organizations and they wanted it back! As a temporary fix, Microsoft allowed organizations to enable the deprecated control for specific model-driven apps. (You can do this by going into the settings for the MDA.)

This new feature will replace and enhance the deprecated hierarchy control. To start this control (v1) will support the visualization of hierarchical relationships for single tables, but support for multi-table hierarchies is coming in v2, allowing for visualization of more complex hierarchies! I apologize for the quality of the screenshot above, unfortunately this is what is posted in the release notes! I hope you enjoyed this article! Be sure to check in again next week or subscribe here to never miss another post!
